Open Days & Education Events in South Africa

Education events in South Africa are the fastest way to stop guessing and start knowing. Reading a prospectus tells you what an institution says about itself. Walking into an open day, sitting in a workshop or joining a webinar shows you what studying there is actually like — the lecturers, the campus, the other students,

and the honest answers to the questions you've been too shy to ask. This page brings together workshops, open days, expos, info sessions and webinars from universities, TVET colleges, private colleges, online schools and career expo organisers across all nine provinces, so you can find what's happening near you and plan ahead.

Each event type does a different job. University open days and college open days let you tour the campus, meet lecturers and ask about APS scores, matric requirements and how to apply. Career expos and education expos put dozens of institutions under one roof on the same day — perfect if you're still deciding what to study and want to compare options quickly. Info sessions are smaller and more focused, usually about one course, one campus or one topic like NSFAS funding or bursary applications. Workshops are hands-on: think CV writing, portfolio prep, exam techniques or a taste of a specific field. And webinars are free online sessions you can join from your phone, wherever you live — a big deal if the nearest campus is hours away.

Timing matters more than most people realise. Most public university open days happen between February and May, well before application deadlines close later in the year. Private colleges and online schools tend to run open days and info sessions throughout the year, often monthly, and many homeschool and career expos cluster in the second half of the year. If you're in Grade 11 or 12, the rule of thumb is simple: go to open days the year before you plan to enrol, so you know your options before applications open. Parents and guardians are always welcome — in fact, most institutions encourage it, because the funding and accommodation questions usually come from you.

A few practical tips before you go. Check whether the event is free (most are) and whether you need to register in advance — some open days and webinars cap numbers. Write down three questions you want answered, and take a photo of anything with a deadline on it. If you're comparing private colleges, ask on the day whether the institution is DHET registered and whether your specific course is accredited — a good college will answer straight away.

You can filter the listings by event type, province, city and date, and every event links back to the organiser's official page. Dates and venues can change at short notice, so double-check with the institution the week before. Browse the upcoming education events below to find open days, expos, workshops, info sessions and webinars near you — and if you know of an event we've missed, let us know.

An open day is the cheapest way to check whether a place suits you before you commit a year to it. Most are free, most run on a Saturday, and the ones worth travelling for let you talk to lecturers and current students rather than to a marketing stand.

We list an event only once we have the date from the institution itself, and we take it off this page the day after it happens. Where an institution wants you to register first, the button takes you to their own form — we never collect registrations here.
