Oakfields College is a private higher education institution registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training under the Higher Education Act, 1997, holding registration certificate No. 2015/HE07/001, valid until 31 December 2027. The college is also registered with two Sector Education and Training Authorities, the MICT Seta and CATHSSETA, which its own website describes as SAQA-registered Education and Training Quality Assuring Bodies for the Arts & Culture sector.
Oakfields College opened its first campus in Pretoria in 2006 and later opened a second campus in Edenvale, on Johannesburg's East Rand, due to demand. Teaching is in person and full-time, delivered by lecturers the college describes as industry professionals, with a practical emphasis reflected in at least one course's published split of 40% theory to 60% practical work.
The college specialises in creative and performing arts training. Its full-time programmes span ten fields: a Creative Foundation access programme, 3D Animation, Acting, Fashion Design, Fundamentals of Filmmaking, Graphic Design, Make-Up and SFX Design, Musical Theatre and Dance, Photography, and Sound Technology. Qualification levels vary by course: Acting is offered as a Higher Certificate at NQF level 5, while 3D Animation and Musical Theatre and Dance are three-year Diplomas, with 3D Animation registered at NQF level 6 and requiring a National Senior Certificate (matric) for entry. Alongside these, the college runs six short learning programmes covering acting fundamentals, digital marketing, graphic design, photography, sound recording and video production, which it states are not formally accredited and are offered as flexible, modular, skills-based courses open to anyone aged 16 or older.
Graduates of Oakfields College's full-time programmes have the option to continue their studies at Solent University in the United Kingdom, under an articulation agreement between the two institutions.
For payment, Oakfields College offers an early-bird rate, an upfront payment option, monthly instalment plans, and a 24-month instalment option it calls the Oakfields Extender. It also points students toward external funding through Capitec Education Finance and the Student Hero platform, and notes that part-bursaries are occasionally available through the National Arts Council. Applications for full-time study are accepted on a rolling basis, with prospective students directed to apply online, contact their nearest campus, or attend an open day.
