UCT Online High School
About the institution

UCT Online High School is a fully online high school for South African learners, run in partnership between the University of Cape Town and Valenture Institute, a global ed-tech company founded in 2019. The school was launched by Valenture Institute under agreement with UCT in June 2021, with UCT's Vice-Chancellor chairing its Oversight Committee and UCT faculty sitting on the Operations and Governance committee responsible for academic quality assurance. Valenture Institute runs the technology and day-to-day operations.
The school teaches Grades 8 to 12 through an online campus, using weekly work plans, discussion forums, and live sessions with Learning Facilitators held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Parents can track progress through the Guardian ConnectED app. Two curriculum pathways are offered for Grades 8 to 12: the South African National Senior Certificate, aligned to the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement and assessed through SACAI, and Cambridge International, for which the school is a registered online Cambridge International School. For adults aged 21 and older who did not complete school, the school also offers the Amended Senior Certificate (Adult Matric), which requires a General Education and Training Certificate, a pass in old Standard 7/Grade 9, or a recognised equivalent, and can be completed in one to six subjects over 6 to 36 months depending on the bundle chosen.
Separately, through its Academy of Technology and Industry, the school offers three 18-month, NQF Level 4 occupational qualifications approved for accreditation by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations: Cloud Administrator, Design Thinking Innovation Lead, and Graphic Media Designer. These are aimed at senior learners from Grade 11 up, post-matric and gap-year learners, and adult career-changers.
Fees are charged monthly. The National Senior Certificate pathway starts from R2,985 a month, Cambridge from R3,530 a month, Academy of Technology and Industry qualifications from R2,985 a month, and Adult Matric from R479 a month depending on subject bundle, plus a once-off registration or placement fee. A 15% discount applies for paying 12 months upfront, and a 5% sibling discount applies to additional children enrolled, with only one discount allowed per learner. Because it is fully online, the school has no physical campus for learners to attend; all applications and enquiries are handled through its website and admissions contact channels.
