The South African College of Applied Psychology, known as SACAP, is a private higher education institution registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a Private Higher Education Institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997. Its qualifications are accredited by the Council on Higher Education and registered on the National Qualifications Framework by the South African Qualifications Authority, and the college also holds full accreditation from the British Accreditation Council as an independent higher education institution.
SACAP was established in 1997, opening its first campus in Cape Town before growing into a national college with campuses in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban, alongside a fully online study option. Teaching is offered both on-campus and online, with several degrees available on a part-time basis through online study. The college organises its academic offering into three faculties: Applied Psychology, Management & Leadership, and Social Work & Community Development.
Qualifications span Higher Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, Bachelor Honours Degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Master's Degree level, together with shorter micro-credentials and short courses. Programmes cover applied psychology, counselling, coaching, human resource management, business management, criminology, community mental health, social work and community development, and a postgraduate certificate in education. The Bachelor of Psychology is designed to lead to professional registration as a Registered Counsellor, and the Bachelor of Social Work is designed to lead to registration as a social worker, each through the relevant statutory professional council.
The general minimum entry requirement published by SACAP is a National Senior Certificate with at least 45% in English, with individual programmes publishing their own additional entry requirements. SACAP does not participate in NSFAS and does not offer its own bursaries; it states that it has partnered with financial institutions that may offer funding options to prospective students, and that it accepts private bursaries from employers and corporate funders. An application fee is payable when applying, and is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the application. Fee schedules are published separately for each campus and for online study, and are updated annually.
