The institution is registered in South Africa as Open Learning Group (Pty) Ltd under company number 1997/020392/07, was founded in 1997, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kagiso Capital. Its higher education programmes are quality assured by the Council on Higher Education, and its occupational and skills programmes fall under the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations. OLG is also an approved training provider with the Education, Training and Development Practices SETA, the Wholesale and Retail SETA, and the Transport Education and Training Authority.

OLG is headquartered in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg, Gauteng, and teaches through a blended distance learning model: higher education qualifications are delivered fully online through its OLG4Me student portal, while learnerships and skills programmes combine online learning with contact sessions. The institution does not describe a network of physical teaching campuses; students study remotely and submit coursework through the online portal.

Its programme offering is concentrated in logistics, supply chain management, procurement and project management, with additional further education and training certificates in wholesale and retail operations, road transport supervision, freight handling, and freight forwarding and customs compliance. At higher education level it offers Higher Certificates in Procurement Management, Project Management and Logistics Management, a Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
