Lyceum College

Lyceum College is a private higher education institution that teaches by distance learning. The legal entity is Lyceum College (Pty) Ltd, and it is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, registration number 2001/HE07/011. The college states that its qualifications are accredited by the Council on Higher Education and registered on the National Qualifications Framework. Its history goes back to 1917 as a correspondence college, and it took its current company name in 2003.

Teaching is by distance and correspondence. Students receive study material after registration and work through an online student portal, with virtual onboarding sessions run over Microsoft Teams. The college's legal address is in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, though a late 2025 announcement from the college was datelined Johannesburg, so a person choosing it should confirm where its offices are.

Programmes sit in three faculties: Commerce, Education and Humanities. Commerce covers general, office, operations, project and total quality management, public administration, and degrees in management and licensing practice. Education offers a Diploma in Grade R Teaching, a Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching and two Postgraduate Certificates in Education. Humanities focuses on criminal justice, paralegal studies, incident management, law enforcement supervision, metropolitan and traffic policing, and disaster and safety management. Qualification levels run from higher certificates at NQF level 5, through advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas and bachelor's degrees, to postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas.

Entry to a higher certificate needs a National Senior Certificate or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification. Postgraduate Certificates in Education need a cognate diploma or degree, depending on the phase. Registration runs in yearly cohorts rather than a single closing date, with examinations in May and October.

Fees are published per programme as a first-year price with a monthly instalment option. As examples, the Higher Certificate in General Management is listed at R22 230 for the first year, and the Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching at R46 644, each with a deposit and ten monthly payments as an alternative. A cancellation carries a non-refundable administration cost of at least R1 000. Lyceum College was one of the Educor group colleges whose registration the Department cancelled in March 2024 and later restored, and the college now describes itself as operating under new ownership with its own Senate.
