HyperionDev is an online coding bootcamp provider teaching software engineering, data science, web development, artificial intelligence, cyber security, digital marketing, project management and leadership and management skills entirely online. The organisation was founded in South Africa in 2012 by Riaz Moola and Sobane Motlomelo as a student-led project, and it now runs offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and London, teaching learners in more than 40 countries.
Most of HyperionDev's courses are standard bootcamps and short courses. These award a HyperionDev certificate of completion rather than a formally registered qualification, even where a course is offered in partnership with a named university such as Stellenbosch University or the University of Cape Town; the institution's own partner pages make clear that these partnership certificates are not formal qualifications of the partner university and carry no academic credit there. HyperionDev's Immersive bootcamps in software engineering are different: they are accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations and the MICT SETA, and a graduate is awarded a nationally recognised National Certificate in Information Technology at NQF Level 5.
Teaching is fully online and mentor-led, combining self-paced course material with one-to-one mentor support and code review, available full time or part time. Immersive bootcamps run over six to twelve months, standard bootcamps typically run three to six months, and short courses run ten to twelve weeks. No prior coding experience is required for most courses; applicants to the Immersive bootcamps additionally complete a short problem-solving and logic assessment before being offered a place. Enrolment is rolling, with new start dates offered regularly through the year rather than fixed annual intake dates.
HyperionDev also runs group training for employers, including QCTO-accredited learnerships for employed and unemployed learners, with SETA administration handled on the employer's behalf, alongside custom short courses and bootcamps for organisations. Tuition for individual learners can be paid upfront, which attracts a discount, or in monthly instalments over three to eighteen months, with third-party study loan providers available to South African students.
