False Bay TVET College is a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training college on the False Bay coast in the south of Cape Town, Western Cape. It forms part of the public TVET sector overseen by the Department of Higher Education and Training. The college runs an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and is accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations to offer fourteen Occupational Certificate qualifications.
Teaching is mostly full-time and in person at five campuses: Fish Hoek, Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain, Muizenberg and Westlake, with a Central Office on Main Road in Muizenberg. Part-time classes cover several business programmes, and a distance learning option covers N4 to N6 business and engineering subjects. The Mitchells Plain campus is temporarily housed at Cedar High School and is not admitting new students until its new building is finished.
Study areas span engineering, information and communications technology, education, hospitality, business, safety in society, tourism and maritime studies. The main qualification routes are the National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF Levels 2 to 4, with a single intake each January, and Occupational Certificates in trades such as electrician, welder, millwright, motor mechanic, chef, computer technician, boat builder and early childhood development practitioner, with intakes in January and July. Higher Certificates, a Further Education and Training Certificate in bookkeeping, a Pre-Vocational Learning Programme and part-time short courses are also offered. The older NATED N4 to N6 Report 191 qualifications are being phased out in favour of occupational qualifications, with the last Business and Services N4 enrolment taken in the first semester of 2026.
The minimum entry requirement for the National Certificate (Vocational) is Grade 9, with preference given to Grade 10 and Grade 11 certificate holders. Occupational Certificate requirements range from Grade 9 to Grade 12 by programme. Applications are made online and need a certified identity document, the most recent academic results and proof of address. Offer letters expire five days after issue.
No rand fee amounts are published. National Certificate (Vocational) fees are paid as 20% on registration and four further monthly payments, with a 20% discount if settled in full by 31 January and 10% off for siblings enrolled together. South African citizens enrolling at a TVET college for the first time with a household income of R350 000 or less, or who receive a SASSA grant, can apply for an NSFAS bursary covering registration, tuition and book fees.
