Capricorn TVET College is a technical and vocational education and training college headquartered in Polokwane, Limpopo. It came into being after the Further Education and Training Act of 1996 was adopted, as the product of a merger between three older institutions: the former Pietersburg Technical College, Bochum College of Education and the former Northern Province Community College. The college states that all its programme curricula are developed and recognised by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
Teaching is done in person on its campuses, combining theory with practical learning. The material read describes no distance or online mode of study. The college serves the Capricorn District and neighbouring communities in Limpopo from four campuses: Polokwane, Seshego, Ramokgopa and Senwabarwana. Besides formal learning, its mission also mentions skills development and learnerships.
Programmes come in two streams: the National Certificate (Vocational), or NC(V), and the NATED Report 191 programmes. Both are grouped under three fields. Business Studies covers areas such as finance, economics and accounting, marketing, office administration, management, transport and logistics, human resource management, public management and financial management. Engineering Studies covers electrical, mechanical and civil engineering, electrical infrastructure construction, process plant operations, drawing office practice, mechatronics, information technology and computer science, and laboratory assistant or chemical plant operations. General and Utility Studies covers safety in society, tourism, hospitality and educare. The exact mix differs between the NC(V) and Report 191 streams, so a learner should check which stream offers a given course.
The college describes its programmes as responding to the priority skills demands of the South African economy and says that learners have several exit options.
The material read does not explain entry requirements, how intakes work or how students pay for study, so these should be confirmed with the college directly before applying.
